Cairo to Host the First Made in the USA Exhibition Next January
(Monday 17 September, 2007)

September 17, 2007

Due to recent reforms, developments, increasing population, and high oil rates, the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region has become - more than ever before- a platform for future investments.

Many U.S. companies were early aware of this fact and began penetrating this market since early 70’s and have achieved substantial success. Recently, the MENA region has no doubt become one of the most important and strategic geographic spots to American companies.

The MENA region has recently witnessed many reforms and development plans to achieve sustainable development, increase per capita income and pave the way for advanced technologeis to get the utmost of wealth hidden in the desert.

Countries like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Jordan, Bahrain and Tunisia are strategic alliances to the USA, due to their strategic locations, regional political power, stability, and the very promising opportunities they offer for investment, while Libya will be soon in the way.  For these reasons, the U.S. government is currently inviting American companies to seek the promising investment opportunities offered by such lucrative markets through organizing Made in the USA exhibition in Cairo, Egypt from 17-19 January, 2008 at Cairo International Conference Centre. The show aims at highlighting U.S. companies in Egypt to the 7 MENA countries and developing mutual trade relations between American companies and regional businessmen.

Made in the USA is covering all the top U.S. export sectors including agriculture & agribusiness, information & communications technology, environmental equipment and services, oil & gas machinery services, packaging, cosmetics, medical equipment, hotel & restaurant equipment, food processing, petrochemical industry, educational training equipment, biotechnology laboratories, consumer goods as well as franchising.

“This fair will present a wide array of products, technologies, and services-showcasing the best U.S. business has to offer,” said H.E. Carlos M. Gutierrez, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, inviting U.S. companies to attend Made in the USA in Egypt. “The United States and Egypt enjoy a strong and friendly relationship based on shared interest in the Middle East peace and stability, revitalizing the Egyptian economy through strengthening trade relations and promoting regional trade and security,” added Secretary Gutierrez.

“Egypt was particularly chosen for its political stability, cultural influence in the region, good investment opportunities, and large base of highly educated labor power,” said Aliza Totayo, Foreign Commercial Services, US Department of Commerce in Cairo. “Cooperation between Egypt and USA has been developing since mid 70’s. Now USA is Egypt’s largest bilateral trade partner and the largest investor in Egypt. For instance, investments in communications sector reach $ 5 billions and are expected to grow by 700%,” ended Totayo.

USA embassy in Cairo appointed ACG-ITF, the leading organizers of international trade fairs in the MENA region to organize and launch the first Made in the USA show in Egypt. “Made in the USA 2008 will be the first officially certified U.S. trade pavilion event in Egypt supported by the U.S. department of Commerce, U.S. Commercial Services and American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt. For the first time ever in Egypt, the launching of Made in the USA 2008 is designed as a platform for U.S. business to take advantage of the world’s demanding MENA region strategically positioned at the crossroads of the Middle East & North Africa,” said Nora Ghozzi, Business Development Manager, ACG-ITF.

The show is planned to be organized annually associated with a massive regional promotional campaign with an aim to attract traders & buyers from Egypt, Libya, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Jordan & Tunisia. A trade visitor invitee program is also being organized by AmCham Egypt throughout the MENA Council.
